I'm trying to put up and advertisement for a roleplaying game on this board but I'm having problems.
I'm at a loss to understand the point of this topic. Why wouldn't you just post a URL...?
I didn't post the url because that's not how advertisements work on role playing sites. I guess I should have said I need someone that knows coding for zonebbs and knows how role playing game advertisements are to message me.
I'm still at a loss to understand the point of this topic, but since nobody else has helped out and I still have no idea what you're talking about, I can only hope that you find whatever knowledge it is you're seeking sometime soon.
Do you know coding? If you do I can show you the advertisement in a private message.
I'm confused by this topic too. The only people who know, and control the coding for this site are the admins, JJ and Chris N.
I, too, don't understand this topic. Are you talking about basic HTML coding? If so, google is your friend.
just forget it. I'll just take all of the coding out of the advertisement and just put the text up. I take it that not many people play in role playing games around here or put up advertisements of role playing games on here. I didn't want to know the coding for the zonebbs because I'm not a hacker. I simply wanted to put up the advertisement of a role playing game how it was made and not have to alter it and just use the text. Just because we are visually impaired doesn't mean that zone has to limit things to just text. I still don't understand why people have to pay for some features on zone when on other social networking websites people don't pay unless it's a dating site. I also don't understand why we can't put our picture up like on other social networking websites. Just because we are visually impaired doesn't mean that we don't want our pictures to be on the profile. There people that are not totally blind and also a sighted person could describe the picture but all of this is way off my original topic so I'll just leave it at that.
okay.
i'd like to address your post point by point.
1. a lot of us play role playing games, but most of us just post the description and then the URl of the game. not sure that posting the advertisement how it was meant to be will do any favours. that's just my thoughts on that.
secondly, the reason why people have some features for paying is to encourage premium memberships. it's where the zone gets it's money from, and if they just decided to say.. okay, i want you to pay 25 dollars to us for a year's worth of premium membership, but actually you don't get any benifits from doing it, i don't think it would go down too well!. you have to have some insentives. further more, you don't hear of premium twitter and facebook acounts, because they are much bigger companies and they really don't need to pay for there features.
thirdly, the reason why we don't have pictures on the site (or 1 of them at least) is they require band with, and we're simply not made of that. that's why we have a text profile, so that people can write stuff in there and describe themselves.. so that others can look at it, and try and form an image of that person. plus in reality, how many people on this site are actually going to bother to look at the pictures?. you say people can describe the pictures to them, but that just takes away the freedom of this site. and as i said before it takes away the space, why not use it for something more... realistic?. something that the majority of the users are going to use.
rant over
okay makes sense. I'm working on taking out the coding to put the advertisement up as just text.
You have some very basic structural html elements at your disposal as you've seen below every message form.
So you could reasonably have an a tag with both an href and a title attribute, inside a list element equally allowable, pointing to an external picture if you really wanted to. Your alt text and title description would be the key.
Or, simpler, put a simple link using the a tab with href attribute. It works, I do it all the time, you can even encapsulate primitive Java Script in your source (href) attribute though I haven't done that very often.
Role playing games are quite popular on here, as one of the older members on here I've actually gotten to learn about quite a few from the young gamers here. So do as they said, post your description and add a link.
See the Accessible Games postings, or pay a visit to http://audiogames.net and see how they do it once you select a game in the drop down box towards the bottom of the page.
Not only blind people benefit from text-based sites: anyone on a mobile device, especially Winblows Mobile or older Symbian or pre-Web-OS-Palm (think Trio series before 2007).
okay thank you and I'm working on the advertisement and will put it up later on today.
oh i'm aware of that, i was just pointing out that not many people on this site would benifit from pictures
Thank you Dan, for answering those points for me. Grin.
some people just don't wanna put in a little bit of time and effort, cause to them, complaining is far better than, you know, actually finding a solution. just sayin'.
that's okay alicia, someone's got to rant around here
Dan, I completely agree. very well said.
To the original poster, if you didn't want to know coding for ZoneBBS, why did you put that in the title of this topic?
Fighter of love and life I was putting in the time and effort and was trying to find a solution that’s the reason I said what I said. Ocean dream I did want to know coding of zonebbs but only to put the advertisement up. So I didn’t want to know all of zonebbs’s coding. I only want telp as far as coding for the advertisement. Leo Guardian, I can’t find the coding that you are referring to when I start the new topic. If someone can please just put the coding in the advertisement for me. I would appreciate it. Please pm me so that I can pm the advertisement to you.
The zone is written in HTML, PHP, and I'm pretty sure their is MYSQL.
Yes but there are only certain allowable tags. They are:
Thank you very much LeoGuardian! That's exactly what I needed. It only took 20 posts to get the response I needed. No I'm no mouse. I put up the advertisement.
Yes, but you also could have found that out under the reply box. That's most likely where Leo Guardian got that from.
Ocean Dream, That doesn't come up for me.
It comes up for everyone. Right below the edit box where you would type a rply to me, you'll see a line that says, you have 8000 characters remaining, or however many you have, depending on what you've typed in the edit box up to that point. Directly below that, it says, "Allowed HTML tags," and gives you a list of them. If we'd realized this is what you'd needed, as opposed to thinking you were wanting coding for the site as a whole, we could have told you long ago.
I agree with Alicia's last post.
Sister Dawn Thank you for showing me where that's at however when I start a new topic that's not there.
yeah i agree with alicia.
can we drop this now?
the topics been discussed, the ansers been given, there is nothing more to say
Yes I agree. Can everyone stop please. I already got the answer I needed and don't need this topic answered anymore.
